Tendu is like brushing your teeth. Learn to expect more from your form every time you repeat. To properly tendu: 1) lead with your heel in tendu front so you create a nice line with the heel more forward than the toes. 2) when you tendu to the back, lead with the toes and let your heel feel weighted towards the floor. This means your turnout initiates the tendu in all directions so you keep a perfect form to your foot position. In order to have your turnout initiate the tendu you must feel a wrapping sensation to the rotator muscle so that your inner thigh is involved versus the upper thigh.
