Don't be a copycat

Developing your own artistry will set you aside from the rest.  Don't get me wrong, it's beneficial to study artists who inspire you.  There is added benefit to try to emulate what you like about another artist.  I used to watch video tapes of performances by my favorite artists.  But don't get stuck in the rut of copycat syndrome.  Go ahead and add your own flair to what you're trying on for size.  Go ahead and let YOU be YOU.  The most important step in developing your artistry requires taking what inspires you to the next level of making it your own.  Change it around; flip it upside down; play with phrasing; add your personality to it.  You don't want the stench of copycat litter footprints.  It's time to stand out and make your own footprint!
